GEORGIAN BAY COMMITTEE

The goal of the Georgian Bay Committee is to ensure that the wilderness aspects of the Bay are preserved through:

• Promotion of responsible low-impact use of the Bay by paddlers.
• Provision of information concerning access, routes and campsite locations.
• Coordination of annual clean-up activities.
• Placement of facilities (such as privies) in high-use areas that promote low-impact use.
• Promotion of protection of the Bay from development that might harm its natural and cultural resource.

To these ends, the Georgian Bay Committee has in the past participated in Ontario’s Lands for Life process. We have also constructed, installed and maintained privies at some of the more heavily used campsites on the Bay. In addition, we conduct annual clean-ups on Franklin, Snake, Mink and McCoy Islands in conjunction with GLSKA’s Fall Gathering.
